Amplify Education is a curriculum company based out of Brooklyn that’s got a seriously cool approach to learning. While working on a refresh of their National Science curriculum, I got to imagine a new learning supplemental that would add freshness to their offerings: Amplify Science! magazine. Hello, dream gig!
In dreaming up a visual direction for the magazine, I did a deep dive into market research and developed a look that stood out by harnessing Amplify's superpower: real kids who are excited about science.
The magazine was created with three different grade bands in mind, keeping the design consistent while leveling the copy and age of its photo subjects. Graphic shapes change with each issue's theme, with blocks of color behind each tease so we're never wrestling with the unpredictability of type over a photo.
The key to the magazine's visual appeal is photography that's original with a photojournalistic, intimate style. Subjects are always real students and teachers in real situations. When all kids see themselves reflected in a celebration of hands-on science, it's game-changing inspiration.
As part of Amplify’s National Science curriculum refresh, I helped reimagine the Materials, Preparation & Activity for the print teacher's guide. The goal was to create a quick-start manual that was chart-like and effortless to digest.
The goal of this redesigned Lesson at a Glance was to provide a quick roadmap for teachers to see how all the lessons fit together, and instantly see the time required plus type of classroom engagement.
This science article template was created for the print student edition in Amplify’s Texas Science curriculum. The goal was to merge a clean, straightforward reader with a playful scrapbook style to complement the student workbook design.
This placemat was created to gather focus group data at the National Science Teachers Association conference. Amplify needed something fun and engaging to capture teachers' attention and ideas in the middle of a hectic day
The Walt Disney Family Museum is a San Francisco-based monument to the man and his legacy of fun. After a pandemic hiatus, the museum was excited about its return to in-person programming and wanted to promote its new exhibitions and work being made by students in its animation academy. I was thrilled to get to help produce their member magazine.
I’m lucky to do work for the marketing team MLC Consulting, which includes two of my favorite coworkers from my Seattle Times days. I created this concept and design for their client SureSmile, who needed a campaign encouraging dentists to switch clear aligner brands.
The goal was a fresh and impactful print and digital campaign that elevated SureSmile’s “75% no refinements” claim to help drive increased brand awareness, buy rates and loyalty.
